Shuen Wan Complex for the Elderly

TWGHs Shuen Wan Complex for the Elderly has been developed in phases since the 1980s. It provides accommodation, daily living assistance, nursing and medical care, rehabilitation counselling and recreational activities for frail older people who have limited ability to care for themselves, enabling them to enjoy a dignified and fulfilling life. The Complex comprises TWGHs Pao Siu Loong Care and Attention Home, TWGHs Wu York Yu Care and Attention Home and TWGHs Wu Chiang Wai Fong Care and Attention Home. Together they provide 649 places, including 40 centres supported by a multidisciplinary team providing holistic care. The Complex actively introduces gerontechnology and a centralized medication dispensing system to enhance nursing standards.

To address the needs of frail older people, speech therapy and soft-meal services are provided for residents with swallowing difficulties. Comprehensive end-of-life care also supports residents through the final stage of life with dignity. In recent years the Complex has developed distinctive residential services using themed environmental design and activities to encourage participation by residents and families, helping older people find belonging and happiness in familiar surroundings and creating a warm and varied residential life.

About the organization

Founded in 1870, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals is Hong Kong’s longest-established and largest charitable organization. It has consistently upheld its mission to heal the sick and relieve the distressed, care for older people and support rehabilitation, promote education and nurture talent, and care for and guide the young, providing comprehensive medical, education, social and public services.

TWGHs Social Services Division operates 258 service units across elderly, rehabilitation, youth and family services. Since opening its first elderly home in 1971, TWGHs has spent more than half a century building a comprehensive network covering residential care, community day and home care, young-old services, dementia services, carer support and end-of-life care, improving older people’s quality of life. As the non-governmental organization providing the largest number of subsidized residential elderly care places in Hong Kong, TWGHs currently operates 25 homes with more than 3,300 care-and-attention and nursing-home places. Its extensive management experience and operational excellence make it a reliable and influential partner in advancing elderly service standards.
